Useful Tips
THINGS TO REMEMBER TO PACK FOR ITALY Comfortable, non-slip, walking shoes, small backpack, light rain gear, bathing suit, small camera and film, hat and sun protection. Neck pouches, money belts and pants with multiple pockets (to help avoid the crafty fingers of pickpockets in large centers). Padded shorts for biking. Dress tends to be tastefully casual throughout Italy.
MONEY Bank cards or credit cards with 4 digit pin numbers are accepted in most Bank Machines in Italy.
FINAL ITINERARY A final itinerary will be sent two weeks prior to departure. It will include detailed information on accommodations, maps, vouchers, driving instructions, day trip information and lists of our favourite restaurants.
INSURANCE Accident and Medical insurance is mandatory for all Ciao tours of Italy. We can provide Trip Interruption and Cancellation Insurance.
LUGGAGE Ciao Tours “highly” recommends only one moderately sized piece of luggage that you can pull and one carry-on bag per person.
TOUR VOUCHERS These will be sent to you with your final tour itinerary.
TIPPING Approximately 10% in restaurants. If menu states “servizio incluso” do not tip. Guides and drivers: a small gratuity, if the service meets or exceeds your expectations.
DOCUMENTATION NECESSARY FOR TRAVEL IN ITALY A valid passport is mandatory for stays of up to 3 months.
CAR RENTALS A valid driver's license is required for car rental in Italy. Also a major credit card is necessary for a security deposit on the car. A second driver can be registered and insurance can be zero deductible for nominal fees.
INTERNET Throughout Italy there are Internet cafes and offices where access to the internet is available for a nominal fee.
CELL PHONES Rental or purchase of cell phones is easily accommodated. Please inform your Ciao contact if a cell phone is required.
