Fall / Christmas![]() The beaches of Italy may be cool in winter, but the museums, wineries and cooking schools are toasty warm. Enjoy roasted chestnuts while you explore Italy's famed outdoor markets. The weather in Italy is usually balmy this time of year, so your travels - whether they be through history or from one cultural event to the next - are sure to be pleasant. There is much to do in Italy in the winter. Hilltowns in central Italy and villages in the south are welcoming to tourists. The trattorias and ristorante feature winter food specials and the winter ambience of Venice, Verona and Chioggia is hard to beat. The Dolomites are snowy and fashionable Cortina welcomes travelers with a warm glow. The ski slopes are endless and so, seemingly, are the lunches which are a one hour tradition in the cozy chalets. And remember, while the crowds of tourists are scarce this time of year, pizzas cooking in a flaming wood oven are always plentiful.
